Ian Duncan MEP hosted Scottish Conservative External Affairs Spokesman Alexander Stewart MSP in Brussels this week, as part of a fact-finding visit to explore the implications of June’s vote to exit the European Union. Alexander undertook meetings with the Law Society, Scotland Europa and a range of UK MEPs, and will now deliver his finding to party colleagues.
Commenting, Ian said,
‘This was the perfect time for Alexander to come to Brussels, and I hope he is able to return in the near future as the British people have spoken and we must now get on with delivering their instruction. The meetings we undertook in Brussels were remarkably positive, and I detect a shared vision to work together to deliver the best possible deal for the UK.’
'It has been extremely valuable to visit Brussels this week and meet with a number of colleagues and organisations. While we may be leaving the European Union, we are not leaving Europe but rather forging a new role for Scotland and Britain in the world. The work done by Scotland's representatives in Europe to promote our interests and brand is as important now as it ever has been. Now that the dust has settled following the referendum result, there seems a real willingness to make Brexit work and I shall continue to engage with colleagues in Europe throughout the renegotiation process and beyond.'
