CONSERVATIVE MEP FOR SCOTLAND

The Campaign to Dual the A90 all the way to Peterhead

06.11.2015.

Ian Duncan MEP and Ellon Councillor Gillian Owen have launched a plan to encourage the Scottish Government to dual the A90 as far as Peterhead. Ian has identified potential funding streams in Brussels, and has lent his support to Councillor Owen's long running 'Why Stop at Ellon' campaign. They were joined by local Scottish Conservative candidates Colin Clark and Peter Chapman to launch a leaflet setting out the case for dualling the A90 from Ellon to Peterhead.

The case for continuing the dualling the A90 makes not only economic sense but will also improve road safety. In order to help finance the dualling, the Scottish Government could apply for a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), as they did last year when they secured £175 million of funding to improve the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Commenting Ian said

'Across politics, everyone is on the same page - Dualling as far as Peterhead makes sense, and if the EU can help with low interest loans then we should take advantage of them. Councillor Owen has run a tremendous campaign and I hope the leaflet we have produced can spur the Scottish Government on, and improve both the economy and road safety of the North east'.
