Dr Ian Duncan is the Conservative MEP for Scotland. He is spokesman on Energy & Climate Change and Fisheries, and serves on the respective Committees in the European Parliament. In addition, Ian is Chief Whip to the Conservative Delegation, Chair of the ECR Rural Affairs Policy Group, and Vice President of the Parliament’s Intergroups on Wine & Spirits and LGBTI. Ian is also the Secretary General of a Brussels-based think tank, New Direction.

Job Title: Senior Policy Advisor

Working For: Dr Ian Duncan MEP (Scotland)

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Salary: Commensurate to experience

Brexit: The term of the position will necessarily be limited by Brexit.

Job description

Primary focus will be to assist in the development of policy in the fields of energy, environment and climate change. Ian is the Parliament’s lead negotiator on carbon market reform (EU-ETS) and an early focus would be this issue. Ian is also one of the Parliament’s delegates to the UN Climate Change (COP) Conferences. The post holder will:

Participate in the legislative process by supporting the drafting of legislative reports and amendments and will regularly represent Ian in policy discussions & negotiations

Draft written material for a range of publications

Liaise with key actors, including parliamentarians, government officials (EU, UK and Scottish), NGOs, trade bodies and industry representatives

Organise and manage events connected to Ian’s work

The position involves regular travel to Strasbourg, for which additional support is provided, and travel further afield.

Job Title: Head of Brussels Office

Job description

Primary focus will be managing the policy direction and media focus of a busy parliamentary office, as well as day-to-day management of staff and finance. By necessity post holder will work closely with the head of Ian’s Scotland office.  Staff consists of Senior Policy Advisor (currently being recruited), Policy Advisor and up to two interns. Additional responsibilities include:

Provision of political advice. (sensitivity to Scotland an asset)

Development and maintenance of public profile and media presence, including drafting press releases, prep for interviews.

Management of information flow into office and diary.

Writing as required

The position involves regular travel to Strasbourg, for which additional support is provided, and travel further afield.
